I captured this photograph with the flash off. This is the southern wall and doorway leading into our living room area that will soon be remodeled with the Pergo Red Oak flooring.

I do believe I'm going to change out the amber colored ceiling fan fixtures over the lights soon to eleviate the yellow glow.

This is the west wall painted. I apologize for needing to use he flash, but it is dark outside now so there's no light coming in from outside.

Decorating Project

This is a picture I took of one side of our kitchen as we began clearing things out in preparation of painting. Unfortunately, I was only able to capture this and one other photo with the digital before the batteries died; but it will provide you with a point of reference.

I'm definately beginning to think that MAYBE...

my kitchen just might turn out to be what I originally envisioned! After getting out for a quick visit with Amber and Alexxis to visit my mom, their grandmother and great-grandmother, I returned to mow the front lawn. My anxiety continued and I totally began to really feel like I was in over my head.

Finally, I decided that I would never know unless I calmed myself down and tackled the painting AGAIN. So after I change to dry rollers since the ones I used yesterday were still wet from rinsing them out, I set my head and my heart on the task ahead. I trimmed the entire kitchen once more, then set out to painting the soffit and the walls. This is the 4th coat of 3 of the walls and the 2nd on the opening of the two rooms that make up my kitchen. It is actually two separate spaces joined into one large room divided by base cabinets and the stove on one side and a breakfast bar on the other. Anyways, I believe the 4th coat is the trick to all this!!! It appears to be coming together......... {*crossing everything I can possibly cross!}

Now, it is time to get myself cleaned up, go get Don & I some lunch, and let the paint do it's thing... dry for 4 hours. I did take the time to read the can and it says it can take up to 4 days for the paint to cure so I've decided to demonstrate some patience and be persistance... afterall, I still have the other side of the room to tackle and will need to purchase one more gallon to do so.

I spent the majority of the day yesterday painting my kitchen and I am still having some SERIOUS mixed emotions. I believe this entire process is definately going to take some time for me to get used to --- maybe because at the current moment all I seem to be seeing is red!

I'm certain that adding insult to injury is the fact that there seems to be no other colors in the room to add any contrast. I cannot see the warmth of the oak cabinetry or the light airy champange countertop with it's mottled golden hues. Everything within the room is all subdued since being entirely covered in plastic dropcloths and I won't even mention the glaring blue of the painter's low tac tape against the red walls! Somehow the "IN YOUR FACE" red walls have even made the Pergo Red Oak flooring receed somewhere off into an unknown distant place.

I really don't know what exactly it is that is causing all these mixed emotions. Hell, I've never painted a room with red walls before in my entire live! I guess I simply expected the paint or the color itself to "blend" more right from the start and not show every little detail in the areas where the paintbrushed trim and roller painted wall overlap. Maybe because it still is a work in process and this is how the beautiful red kitchens I've seen in many magazines are created, one layer after another? Maybe the fact that I'm not absolutely 100% happy with the quality of the paint or my expertise of painting using the color red? Whatever it is, I am certainly hoping and praying it goes away!

I managed to get the backsplash and two walls painted with 3 coats. I have some touching up to finish where I completed the trimming in between the ceiling and the wall and along the top and bottom of the tiered soffit. It barely looks like there is one coat on those sections of the wall, could this due to the fact that I used a paintbrush vs. a roller and I'm not getting as much of the paint in these sections?

I realize that right now it is really hard for me to visual what it will look like once the entire room is finished, everything is back in place, and the room is actually decorated the way I envisioned it. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around those results; maybe that is all part of of the process as well, at least that is what I'm trying to convince myself of! I cannot help but sit and wonder what the hell have I gotten myself into now? ROFLOL!

Exploring with Color.......

The only time that I ever remember this anxious and nervous all at once was while my dd, Amber was in labor last week. I must have gotten some mid-life crisis or have became an adrenaline junkie because today I am taking the leap to paint my kitchen RED!

I've spent the entire morning, other than uploading the previous pics, taping off trim, putting plastic over the kitchen cabinets and countertops in preparation of painting it. I have one coat on the blacksplash and here I am feeling very overwhelmed and I'm just getting started, ROFLOL! What if I don't like it? What if it is doesn't turn out the shade of red I envisioned? And just how hard is it to re-paint over Red walls?

Anyways, above is my color palette...... The ruby red is more red and less orange shown on my computer monitor and the golden butterscotchy-sunflower color will only be a touch added to an alcover where our refrigerator is. The greens are possible colors for the backwall and door leading to the rear deck; although I didn't pick it up yet and now I'm even questioning that. I'm thinking maybe saving the yellow and the greens for more of my accessories colors along with more shades of reds in my rooster collection and table accessories.

Please tell me my kitchen will look fantastic when done and I'm just being jittery because it's such a BOLD color scheme.............. LOL!

{Just what the hell am I doing?} I think it is simply that I've never experimented so brazenly with color in my home ever before that I am so anxious. And I have to hand it to anyone who has ever attempted this--- painting with red definately takes some brass b*lls!!!!!

I tried to take some before photographs with my digital camera, only to discover my batteries are dead! Sheesh, and I even asked about batteries and look at rechargers but then remembered I had one from my previous digital......... now do you think I know where they are? What a crazy life I live!!!!
