A wonderful adventure...

Yesterday, Don again had wanderlust in his soul; although I would have been just as happy to have stayed home... playing and creating, I am so very glad that I gave in and listened to him! {for once! LOL!} We stopped by an antique warehouse on our travels and I found the coolest things! I am not so certain that this was such a great idea as I know that I will want to go back!

You know how you read about other peoples cool finds at yard sales, thrift stores, flea and antique markets and sit back and wonder to yourself why the hell you never seem to find things like that when or while you are doing it? Well, this is one of THoSe posts; so if that type of thing is going to rub you the wrong way, you may want to stop reading now, LOL! Fair warning!

This antique market we visited was filled with a variety of booths, containing a bit of everything and anything from old glassware to clothing to some beautiful antique furniture. I was loving it and so was Don. Anyways, as we browsed, I first spotted some antique wool wooden spindels with the yarn/threads still on them; so I purchased 3 of them for $1 each. At another booth, I discovered 3 more without anything on them in a baggie for another $1. I looked all over for a vintage cake plate, found several but way more than I desired to pay since I want to actually use it vs. collecting it, so we kept looking. I did find one for $22 but then decided not to purchase it after discovering a chip and a hairline fracture in the base so our search continued. As we rounded a corner to visit the opposide side of the warehouse, I immediately spotted a ton of printer trays just down the aisle but decide to look at the rest of the booths along the way. Until I finally made my way to the booth containing them. As I approached the booth, my heart began pounding in my newly discovered finds. The booth was filled, not only with printer's tray but with letterpressing dies! Everything from images, to logos, to complete sets of type. As I ventured to the back, on letterpress die caught my eye, it was an image of a simple feather. Gotta have it, so I picked it up. As I came upon the south wall, I stood in complete and utter awe! There lying on the table top were complete sets of letterpress text in a variety of sizes and styles. At first I picked a set up, then upon further inspecting it, noticed that the letter "i" was missing so I put it back. I looked at a complete set of upper and lower case, numbers, and punctuation marks but noticed a few of them had some dents and dings and were way out of what I had to spend, so I continued looking until I found a set. A complete set of lowercase letters and punctuation that included a spacer die for only $29.00 The set was stained with ink but in very good condition other than that. Don's looking at me that "Oh no! Here we go!" look in his eye, LOL! As I continued to browse, we got to talking about how I'd love to find a complete letterpress cabinet in good condition with all its original drawers intact when I turned to discover two cabinets, both beautiful aged oak, but my heart sank when I realized there were no drawers in either. Next, I set about looking for a printing press but had no luck with that one either. I'd love to have one, a printing press, just a tabletop Kesley or other press, with not too big of a printing area...... 3.5x 5 up to a standard size sheet of paper, just to use in my hobbies and artwork. So, my search will continue. I know you can find them on eBay every now and them, but the weight to ship some of them would kill you! So, my search continues...

Next, I stumbled across a beautiful aged wood letterpress die tray. It isn't a large one by any means, but it will more than adequately hold the dies I've purchased to date. Pleased with my discoveries, we headed to check out. I'm loving these things!!!!
