This, my friends, is my most cherished vintage Valentine's Day postcard. I love the embossing on this. The border, the bird, the flowers, the individual blades of grass, and a bird bearing a four leaf clover, what's not to love?

Another Vintage German Valentine's Day Postcard...

Every time I come across a vintage postcard while out flea marketing, antiquing, thrifting, yard sales, etc., I swear my heart beats a little bit faster! Especially when, I stumble across an entire slew of vintage postcards, like we did at the Springfield Antiques Show last spring! The woman that I purchased this from had albums after albums after albums filled with vintage postcards. Each separated by holiday, artist, or a certain style, like some tintypes; and her booth was overwhelming! I need to check to see when and if there will be one this year there. Who knows maybe fate will bring us together again...

Anyways, she collected these for many years, purchasing them here and there, but admitted most of her collection had come from eBay purchases made many, many years before. It was hard not to desire to scoop up all her albums and run as fast I could, LOL! but even harder was choosing only a few special few. So, I did have to narrow down my choices. I choose this one because it's German and to honor my family's German heritage. I love the embossed hearts and flowers and ribbon.

Whatever it is that draws you to this, I hope you love it as much as I do!

Vintage Valentine's Day postcards...

Recently, Uniquely Myself @ http://lavendulaloveliness.blogspot.com/ commented on my "Glimpse of Home" post. In that post, she asked if I had a copy/scan/photograph of the postcard I added to my china hutch that I could share. Well, I've been searching to see if perhaps I had scanned it, but no such luck!

And {I actually used glue dots to the corners of the postcard to hold it in place within my hutch, so I a little hesitant to try to remove until I'm absolutely certain that I'm ready...} but....

All is not lost! I do have more vintage Valentine's Day postcards that I am able to share! So, please, enjoy this one! {I've a few more I'll upload over the next several days as well...}

Collecting vintage Valentine's Day postcards is something I love to do! Perhaps, I'm even a bit more partial towards the Valentine's Day ones because it's also my birthday! Anyways, on Valentine's Day {my birthday!} I'll share my most favorite one!!!

Inscribed on the back of this postcard, in what appears to be German to me is "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" Jakobskirche - Foto Verlag, Hiuldenbrand Goppingen, Best Nr. 5436

This is another postcard. It is of a Inscription of a Tablet, originally placed over the door of the Second Trinity Church, located at Broadway and Wall Street in New York City. I thought it would be wonderful for collage backgrounds.

This is another postcard of the Cathedral of St. John The Divine, New York City. The postcard states that it was published by the Laymen's Club of the Cathedral in 1923.

Vintage Photos ` Continued....

I decided to scan the reverse side of the photograph with the young man as I sometimes love the look of old printed text in my artwork. It is actually the photographers information but it would also be perfect for use in backgrounds. There's no writing or identification of who the people in the photograph are, although there is some pencil writing on the back of one of the previously uploaded photographs of a mother and child that is unreadable, but the date states it was taken in 1901.

Vintage Images To Share...

Over the years, I've used a lot of Vintage Images that other collage and mixed media artists have shared for use in my artwork before I was able to begin finding some cabinet cards, old photographs, and greeting cards of my own to use. So I thought that it would be nice to share some of my finds with all of you who visit here.

I grabbed a photo box from the studio yesterday and I will be scanning and cropping them as I work to create myself an electronic version for my own artwork, please feel free to enjoy them as well.

Each photograph is "click-able" so that you can download them to your computer. I hesitated to resize them as I know that often I prefer to resize my own image depending upon what it is that I am creating whether it is a large collage or an ATC or even an art inchie. {For those who may be new to those terms, an ATC is an Artist Trading Card. It's 2.5" x 3.5 inch piece of art that is available for trading with others. If you "Google" Artist Trading Cards, you'll find a lot on information on them available online as well as places and people to trade them with. From my experience, almost everyone I've ever contacted regarding an ATC trade has been willing to create and trade at least one with me. {Thank You to those who have! I'm beginning to get quite a collection of hand-created art} Art Inchies are 1" x 1" pieces of art. The mediums used to create all these things vary by the artists creating them, whether it be paints, pen and ink, fabric, paper, and fibers or any combination of the above plus some.

If you do not have a program available on your computer that allows you to resize images, one good way of resizing them is to import them into MS Word. Once the image is in the document, if you click on it, guidelines will appear that will allow you to make an image larger or smaller. From my experience, it is easy to make an image smaller than it is to make an image larger without the image becoming distorted unless the image was scanned at 300 dpi resolution and I personally have no idea of what or where mine is set at.
