I am awful, I know! As I spent another 4 hours today emptying out bags filled with assorted odds and ends.... everything from stickers, embellishments, paper scraps, to some actual projects in process. Over the course of the last several years, I've gotten really bad about not cleaning up after myself. Ok, let me re-phrase that because I'm not a total slob!
I do pick up my supplies and my tools, but I am not so great about putting embellishments I've drug out back away. Also, I am terrible with those photo tabs leaving several on a piece I've torn off. I'm not kidding here when I say I've probably discovered enough of them to warrant half a roll of 500, LOL! and I could use some improvement on putting some scraps directly in the trash.
I found many, many items that I'd packed just a few of in smaller ziplocks so that I could take them with me when I've went away from home to play. Now this is where it gets bad --- I realized today that I haven't been anywhere for the last 14 months!!! Yes, I've worked outside our home in that time, have worked on remodeling and decorating projects, and spent many of hours with family and friends. But where the hell did all these small baggies come from?
I also discovered more cd's, cd tins, and various containers from AOL that I'd hope to alter one day. That I've bits and pieces of fiber, string, jute, and ribbon and no storage for them other than my fibers which are wrapped around embroidery floss bobbins and fill two containers designed for them. I realized I could use about 3 more of the clear jewelry containers from the container store for small embellishments and I really need to organize one by the alphabet!
I also discovered numberous boxes in various sizes and shapes that I'd forgetten totally about having. {I am almost embarrassed to admit that I almost went shopping for one the other day so I could begin a shrine within.}
I've duplicates of a lot of supplies. Do I really need 3 different types of colored pencils? And just how many tubes, pots, crayons, and pencil do I need in watercolors? I realized it was time to clear some of these out as well but will come later. For now, I am completely happy just knowing that I'm organizing it and discovering things that I can do with and without!
Here are some of the discoveries I've made along the way:
* I don't need anymore office supplies.
* I've several scrapbook albums on hand that I have the entire line of paper and sticker to complete them.
* A few more containers will do the trick for the embellishments.
* and, I really need a system for my string, jute, and ribbons! {I think I'm going to look in to the old fashion slip style clothespins as they fit perfectly into a photo storage box or a bowl on display!}
Once all this re-organization effort is complete as far as my supplies go, I really want to begin to put the studio in a perspective that I can deal with. I discovered a few other things:
* I've an entire shelf within my bookbinding table that I can devote to "altered items" like books, boxes, and cds.
* My bookbinding area needs re-done.
* I need to establish a space for calligraphy pens, inks, and supplies once again.
and
* I need to get my stamp cabinet put back into shape. I don't know how many stamps I notice are not in the labelled categories that they belong in.
{hopefully, this post will assist me while I work on the studio and shop for the storage that I need...}
I've discovered some more items that I intend to pass on to my dd, and she'll thank me that some are storage containers that I've simply outgrown! {smile}
